I grew up with four older brothers. They were wonderful but I always wanted a sister. I never got one.
Now I have a daughter. The universe gave us only one child (I wanted more but I’m grateful beyond measure) and she's often wished for a sister too.Â
I tell her this: “You may not have a sister at home, but you belong to a whole universe of sisters—all over the world.” And I mean it. I want my daughter to know that sisterhood isn’t limited to biology.Â
That’s why I support causes that uplift and protect women and girls. It’s how I stay grounded in a deeper purpose—and how I teach my daughter to look beyond herself.Â
Progress feels hollow when your sister is still behind. Joy comes from rising together.

These organizations provide resources, education, and a sense of belonging—especially in places where being born female comes with unthinkable challenges.
Step Up empowers teen girls from under-resourced communities to become confident, college-bound, and career-focused. Through mentorship and structured programs, girls gain the support and skills they need to envision—and achieve—a brighter future.
Part of the Obama Foundation, Girls Opportunity Alliance believes that educating a girl can change everything. In communities where girls face early marriage or are pulled from school to help at home, this initiative funds grassroots programs that keep girls learning—so they can escape poverty, support their families, and shape their own futures.
Women for Women International helps women survivors of war and conflict rebuild their lives through education, financial training, and emotional support. Their yearlong program equips women with the tools to start businesses, become leaders, and support their families and communities.
